Fusion
High voltage plays several distinct roles in fusion reactions depending on the confinement and fueling method. In every case, the core purpose is to supply energy to charged particles so they can overcome electrostatic repulsion (the Coulomb barrier) and undergo nuclear reactions.
Key roles and mechanisms:
- Accelerating ions to collision energies
- In electrostatic fusion devices and beam-target setups, a high voltage (kV–MV) directly accelerates ions to the keV–MeV energies required for fusion cross-sections to become significant.
Spellman offers a series of high voltage power supplies for Fusion applications. Among the many desirable features, these power supplies have highly controlled regulation, low ripple, compact footprint and the ability to work in hard arc environments.
