Spellman Introduces New EBM20 High Voltage Power Supply for Thermionic Scanning Electron Microscope

New EBM20 Power Supply Provides Acceleration, Bias and Filament Sources in a Single Compact Package

September 23, 2019

EBM20 SeriesSpellman High Voltage Electronics Corp, the world’s leading high voltage power supply, X-Ray generator and Monoblock® X-Ray source manufacturer, announces the introduction of their new EBM20. The EBM20 powers E-Beam Columns in Thermionic Scanning Electron Microscopes providing acceleration, bias, and filament sources in a single compact package. The unit is fitted with a custom HV receptacle, designed to fit to the smaller chassis, with the mating custom HV Connector/Cable assembly designed with screened cable to reduce discharge events. Spellman’s extensive knowledge in this application has enable us to develop a range of technology platforms that can be customized to meet the demanding requirements of SEM.

Spellman’s proprietary HV packaging and encapsulation technology gives dramatic improvements in size, cost and performance compared to other SEM power supply offerings. The EBM20 provides a highly regulated, low noise, ultra-stable accelerator supply programmable from 0 to -20kV at 200uA. The EBM20 has floating bias and filament supplies referenced to the accelerator. Programming signals utilize differential analog inputs to minimize external noise and offset voltages effects. A ground referenced accelerator current monitor is provided. The EBM20 is arc and short circuit immune, along with over voltage and over current protection.

Customer control of this EBM20 power supply system is accomplished via a fiber optic interface. All high voltage safety interlocks are of a failsafe hardware based design and the EBM20 is CE marked and is designed to be compliant with applicable IEC, UL and SEMI standards. Spellman’s EBM20 offers exceptional performance with low ripple and ppm level stability for unprecedented image quality and resolution. (Stability is 30ppm/3 minutes at 100μA load current after 1 hour warm up). Typical applications include Scanning Electron Microscopes and Electron Beam Controllers.
