Spellman Achieves ISO 27001 Certification; International Standard Focused on Information Security

Hauppauge New York – After 14 months of working to establish the necessary policies, procedures, and standards, Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corporations' headquarters in Hauppauge, NY, has been awarded the leading international standard focused on information security. Known formally as ISO/IEC 27001, it details information technology, security techniques, and information security management systems' requirements. The standard is published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in partnership with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). ISO 27001, as it is generally known, is part of a set of standards developed to handle information security.

According to Mark Balcerak, Senior Manager, Information Security Compliance, and Lead on this project, "Spellman's dedication to information security and our customers is demonstrated by our ISO27001:2013 certification. Maintaining alignment with a globally recognized standard, that was audited by Schellman & Company, LLC to confirm compliance, solidifies that Spellman's information security management system and team are comprehensively and proactively adopting best practices. These efforts ensure information assurance is applied to our customer's data and Spellman's intellectual property."

The standard is a risk reduction framework made up of repeatable best practices that provides best practice security of: Spellman employee data, Spellman company data, our customers’ data, and our suppliers' data while it's in our hands. Over 40 policies and procedures had to be established to make this certification a reality. The library of policies, procedures, and standards built throughout the project helps guide the staff and maintains documented routines for established IT functions. These standards along with repeated auditing and the implementation of controls ensure that data security is consistent and reduces the probability of error.

The scope of the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification is limited to the information security management system (ISMS) supporting the people, processes, systems, and applications securing the information assets integral to Spellman's design, manufacturing, and repair businesses for high voltage power supplies and related Spellman and client information in accordance with the Statement of Applicability, dated April 18, 2022.
