Spellman Holds Ground-Breaking Ceremony for New India Manufacturing Center

Hauppauge, NY – Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corporation, the world’s largest independent manufacturer of custom high voltage power conversion products and X-Ray sources, announces the breaking ground of our new manufacturing center in Visakhapatnam, India, in the state of Andra Pradesh on the southeast coast on the Bay of Bengal. The new building will have 9,650 sf of production/test/warehouse space plus 3,000 sf of office space and sits on one acre of land. This marks a significant expansion in our operations in India. Spellman currently has a service facility in Pune, a metropolitan area near Mumbai on India’s west coast, on the Arabian sea.

A Hindu groundbreaking ceremony was held Jan. 22 in which a Spellman team and a group from the Andhra Pradesh Med Tech Zone (AMTZ) participated. A Hindu priest oversaw laying of the cornerstone for the new building.

“Under the Hindu tradition, the ceremony is intended to prepare the earth for the artificial products of the new building by first seeding it with nature’s products as an act of both gratitude and blessings”, said Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and founding CEO of AMTZ. “In essence, we honor the earth as we seek permission to build upon it”.

Arindam Bose, Head of Sales, India, added his perspective on the significance of the groundbreaking. “It is a major milestone in Spellman’s growing business in India,” he said. “It shows our long-term commitment to the Indian market and to our customers in the region. We continue to strive to better service our customers and provide them with the Spellman experience.”
The groundbreaking represents the next major step in the development of the property and the expansion of Spellman’s operations in Asia. Operating in such an industrial hub with other manufacturers in the medical technology industry, and with end-to-end services, allows for fewer import dependencies and helps to reduce costs.
