Safety Manager

As the Safety Manager, you will work with the VP of Operations and drive corporate initiatives to improve global Health and Safety programs. The Safety Manager will play a critical role in developing and implementing programs that support business strategies and growth activities, while ensuring adherence to positive global safety standards.


  • Ensures that Health and Safety has high visibility and priority in Corporate decision-making
  • Develops, implements, and monitors global Health and Safety procedures, processes, and training programs for Spellman Global sites
  • Oversees the Global Safety Management System (GSMS); participates in and oversees global accident/incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Leads proactive efforts to enhance worker Health and Safety, including implementing ergonomic initiatives and promoting wellness programs in conjunction with HR
  • Manages compliance with governmental Health and Safety reporting and audit requirements
  • Manages Corporate Radiation Safety standards and monitors all global sites to ensure they are in compliance with Radiation Safety Requirements
  • Supports HR in reporting and managing of workers compensation claims
  • Ensures Health and Safety compliance with regulatory requirements at global sites
  • Collaborates with HR and Facilities Management to maintain Health and Safety-related KPIs and set goals to establish behavioral Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Conducts Safety Trainings
  • Audits each site to ensure compliance with corporate standards
  • Works closely with Facilities Management to maintain environmentally related KPIs, set goals, and ensure Continuous Improvement in reducing our impact on the environment
  • Manages Hazardous Waste and HAZMAT Programs
  • Drives Continuous Improvement across all Global Sites
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Acts as Primary Emergency Coordinator
  • Manages Environmental Health and Safety emergency communications with Fire/Police, Spellman Executive Staff, and emergency response teams
  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours
  • Develops and continuously improves emergency action plans
  • Qualifications
  • 5+ years Safety Manager experience in an electronics manufacturing environment
  • Ability to inspire commitment to Safety goals and the Continuous Improvement philosophy as well as motivate compliance to procedures among all employees
  • Strong failure analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and capabilities in conflict resolution
  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills, competence in conducting ROI analyses
  • Experience in implementing behavioral approaches to Health & Safety preferred
  • 10 – 20% Global Travel

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, or safety/environmental engineering, or related field; Master’s degree a plus
  • OSHA 30-hour Certification required
  • Emphasis on electrical safety

  • RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management Certification
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS)

  • Associate Loss Control Manager (ALCM)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist (CAIH)
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER


Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 40 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
